POOL 1

In order to obtain Pool 1 you will need to submit/perform the following:

1. Submit welding certification papers in the following welding processes to our office:

   • TIG (root) - SMAW, 6G position

   • SMAW open butt 6G position

   • SMAW with backing ring 6G position

2. Upon receipt of one of the above certifications we will send you a notification to contact your Local to schedule a hands on verification.  Once you perform the hands on verification at your Local a notification from your Local will be sent to us.  You must pass the hands on verification in order to upgrade Pools.

OR

1. If you have 1500+ prior work hours in related Boilermaker experience, you can either click here to download the hours release form (this form is for work performed through the Local union hall and must be filled out by hand and emailed to westernstatesjac@gmail.com) or have your employer (non-union) send a letter directly to our office on company letterhead stating hours worked by year and type of work performed.

POOL 2

In order to obtain Pool 2 you will need to submit/perform the following:

1. Submit welding certification papers in the following welding processes to our office:

   • SMAW plate, open butt OR with backing in the 2G AND 3G AND 4G positions

   • FCAW plate, open butt OR with backing in the 2G AND 3G AND 4G positions

   • GMAW plate, open butt OR with backing in the 2G AND 3G AND 4G positions

2. Upon receipt of one of the above certifications we will send you a notification to contact your Local to schedule a hands on verification.  Once you perform the hands on verification at your Local a notification from your Local will be sent to us.

 

POOL 3

1. Attend(ed) college or vocational school and take and pass welding courses.

2. Have school send us an official transcript (in a sealed envelope).
